What is World’s Teachers’ Day?
People around the world celebrate the Teachers’ Day annually on 5th October to highlight the essential role of teachers in providing quality education and building the future of a nation. UNESCO inaugurated this day as World’s Teachers’ Day in 1994. This day emphasizes on providing proper training while focusing on their professional development and protecting their rights. ‘Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers’ is the theme of this year’s Teachers’ Day.
A Teacher’s influence on children
Teachers are the most important factors affecting whether and what children learn. In very young age, teachers have the greatest influence on children. The quality of teaching significantly impacts on children’s learning in school. A strong or weak teacher has more influence on learning outcomes than by a good or bad school.
IMPLEMENTING RIGHT TO EDUCATION IN LYARI
Problems faced by teachers in Pakistan.
In Pakistan, teachers face many problems. Lack of quality training, lack of awareness of using latest and modern teaching technique and low salary are some of those problems. We urgently need to come up with the ideas and ways to support our teachers to meet the basic development and learning milestones of our millions of students.
Many teachers in Pakistan are unable to fully focus on teaching because most of the schools engage them in series of non-instructional tasks – such as administrative tasks, completing the assigned topics, managing the classroom behavior, helping the administration in preparing papers, writing lesson plans and even staffing election polls and census for public sector teachers with little or without support.
Caring well-trained teachers are critical to the future of Pakistan. We urgently need to come up with the ideas and ways to support our teachers to meet the basic development and learning milestones of our millions of students. We should adopt the ways to let teachers enjoy professional independence while providing them quality education.
